Hopkins County Commissioner injured in crash

By Kevin Jefferies

Hopkins County – A 28 year old Sulphur Bluff man is being held by police after a crash that injured a Hopkins County Commissioner. Hector Munoz Correra is being held for intoxication assault, failure to stop and render aid, driving without a license, on the wrong side of the road, and with no insurance.

Precinct 3 Commissioner Don Patterson is hospitalized with a broken leg, fractured ribs, punctured lung, and a head laceration.

The accident occurred around 10pm Monday, as Correra's Dodge Neon crossed the center line of the road and struck the flatbed truck Patterson was driving, according to witnesses. Police detected alcohol on Correra's breath, but he refused a breathalyzer test.
