Horses seized amid claims of animal cruelty

By Scott Harvey

Yantis – Investigators suspect another case of animal cruelty in Yantis at the same location where numerous horses were seized last month.

Wood County authorities received several calls in reference to the property on CR 1987, and later seized 12 horses.

On January 24, authorities rescued several horses, who've have since come under the custody of True Blue Animal Rescue. The horse's owner, 67-year-old Linda Hurley Jones, was charged with animal cruelty.

Investigators believe recent temperatures, along with the economy and low horse prices, are leading to an increase in animal cruelty cases and the department anticipates more seizures in the near future.
