Hostage situation in Greenville ends peacefully

Greenville – A man is taken into custody following a reported hostage situation lasting several hours in Greenville.

At approximately 8:14 a.m. Wednesday, the Greenville Police Department received a call of a domestic violence situation in progress in the 3600 block of Washington Street.

Upon arrival, the victim was reporting being assaulted by a family member and was said to be barricaded in the house. The suspect told officers he was armed. The Greenville Police Department Tactical Team responded and the Crisis Intervention Unit was activated. Shortly after 11 a.m., the man came out of the house and was taken into police custody without incident.

Both the suspect and the victim were at taken to Hunt Regional Medical Center in Greenville for treatment. The victim, identified as Sharon Giddins, was later transferred to Baylor Hospital in Dallas. The suspect, whose name is being withheld pending arraignment, will be jailed at the Hunt County Criminal Justice Center. The case is still under investigation.
