Hunt County is looking more colorful than ever, thanks to a new logo approved by the Hunt County Commissioners Court.
The idea for a county logo came from the 2015 Hunt County Leadership Class through the Greenville Chamber of Commerce. The group’s Paul Kelley appeared before the Commissioners Tuesday.
“This actually came to fruition when we came back from Hunt County Days on the bus,” Kelley said.
Each Leadership Class comes up with a project to tackle, designed to improve the community. The 13 members in this year’s class considered coming up with a new logo.
“And that was when we came to find out there was no Hunt County logo,” Kelley said.
The red, white and blue logo is in the shape of the county and includes the Texas star in one corner. Kelley hoped it would attract attention, when used on stationary, pens, shirts or other promotional items.
“The goal is bring people and businesses to Hunt County,” he said, adding that the class was only tasked with coming up with the design.
“From that point on, it is your baby,” Kelley said. “If you want to make money off of it after that, then that would be wonderful too.”
Hunt County Judge John Horn was impressed with the logo.
“I think this is a fantastic project,” he said. “Identity is everything. I think this project gives Hunt County an identity.”
The Commissioners voted unanimously to approve the logo, and to reimburse the class the approximately $900 spent in creating the design.
Horn said it will be up to each Commissioner and each department head to decide whether to use the logo in their stationary or business cards.
Kelley stressed that the county owns the logo.
“It is 100 percent under your control,” he said.
Hunt County Civil Attorney Daniel Ray noted that the county automatically claims a copyright on the logo by adopting it for use, but he can also file for an official trademark on the design.
“And that is cheap and easy to do,” he said.
