Hunt County Commissioners to consider emergency funding for fire departments

By Kevin Jefferies

Hunt County – The Hunt County Commissioner's Court is scheduled to consider awarding emergency funding to the county's volunteer fire departments. The regular meeting is scheduled for today. Extreme drought has spawned dozens of grass fires that have kept area fire departments extremely busy.

The volunteer fire departments are funded by monthly stipends from the county, various grants, and fund raising efforts. The Greenville Fire Department may also be receiving additional funding, as they have been assisting in situations outside the county.

An extension for a burn ban in effect for Hunt County will also be considered. Weekend rains were much needed for all of North and East Texas, but likely will not fully alleviate drought conditions.
