– A Hunt County man is arrested following a reported standoff south of Paris that lasted several hours. The incident stemmed from a reported kidnapping, sexual assault and beating in Campbell.
52-year-old Charles Ray Stevens allegedly took the woman by force to Boswell, Oklahoma but she was able to escape when he stopped to get beer. Stevens was spotted by State Troopers on Hwy 82 and a pursuit was initiated that ended when Paris police set up spike strips along Hwy 19. The standoff ended at about 10:40 last night without injuries.
At last report, the woman was being evaluated at a local hospital.
Stevens has been charged with kidnapping, evading arrest with a vehicle and aggravated assault against a public servant. He remained in custody at last report in the Lamar County Jail.
