Poetry – A Hunt County man is among a group of soldiers killed over the weekend in Afghanistan. Staff Sergeant Shawn McNabb, of Poetry, was one of 14 Americans killed in helicopter crashes Sunday.
McNabb attended high school in Terrell and joined the armed forces after graduation in 2003.
Funeral services for McNabb are pending. His body is expected to be flown into Greenville sometime this weekend. The Greenville Fire and Police Departments are planning to post honor guards and residents are asked to be on hand upon McNabb's arrival wearing red, white and blue.
The community of Poetry, located along the Hunt/Kaufman County line, has now lost two soldiers in the last 18 months. Army Specialist Jonathan D. Emard was killed in Iraq in 2008.
