Hunt/Rains Relay for Life Event tonight

By Kevin Jefferies

Greenville – Hundreds of people joining in the fight against cancer will come together tonight at Phillips Field in Greenville for the Relay for Life event sponsored by the Hunt/Rains Unit of the American Cancer Society. The goal is $100,000 this year to go towards cancer research, education, services, and advocacy. Last year's event raised $76,000 with 53 teams. Almost 60 teams are signed up for this year's event that begins at 7pm tonight at Phillips Field in Greenville.

More than 110 survivors and 40 caregivers will start the event with the traditional Survivor's Walk at 7:05. Activities are planned throughout the night as participants walk the track raising money for the fight against cancer. The inspirational Luminaria Ceremony will be at 9pm, and luminaria are still available to purchase by calling 903.455.7785.

Over $300 million was raised last year in Relay for Life events all across the nation.
