Commerce – The thoughts of dozens of East Texas State University alumni go on display this homecoming weekend when Memories of Old E.T. goes on sale.

The book, consisting of 109 essays and short stories, depict the era of "Old E.T.," from Founder Professor Mayo's East Texas Normal College in 1889 through the institution's 34 years as East Texas State University.

Manuscripts were solicited from E.T. alumni.

The 325-page soft cover anthology is a product of the Silver Leos Writers Guild. The group evolved less than two years ago from writing skills seminars conducted by Dr. Fred Tarpley, writing guild advisor and professor emeritus of literature and languages.

"35 of the most wonderful personalities you would ever meet assembled that spring," says Dr. Tarpley. "There were former deans of this university, there were all kinds of graduates, there were distinguished alums, there were gold blazers and they had heads full of memoirs they wanted to write."

Above, hear KETR News Director Scott Harvey's interview with Dr. Tarpley and Bobbie Purdy.

The book will be available for purchase Saturday during Homecoming registration in the Sam Rayburn Student Center, at Memorial Stadium prior to the football game, and at several dinners and other social events that are part of the University's reunion weekend.
