Indictments issued for murder and child abandonment

By Brad Kellar

Hunt County – The Hunt County Grand Jury has issued indictments for capital murder and a Commerce child abandonment case. Jerry Lynn Phelps was indicted Friday on one count of capital murder in connection with the shooting death of Charlene Hoover Jones , the owner of the Jackpot Game Room located between Quinlan and West Tawakoni. Phelps was arrested following a traffic stop about an hour after the shooting occurred. He remains in custody at the Hunt County Jail.

The jury also indicted Laurie Candice Bollin, of Commerce, on a charge of child abandonment. Bollin was alleged in the indictment of leaving a 6-year-old girl and a 1-year-old boy alone in a motel room in November, 2008. Jones was arrested the day of the incident. The indictments were just two of 17 total indictments issued Friday by the Hunt County Grand Jury.
