Inmate convicted in Paris-area sexual assault seeks release

Jul 16, 2012

A Lamar County man is petitioning for his release from the Texas Prison System, arguing ineffective counsel during his 2009 trial.

Johnny Clawson received two life terms and three 20-year terms for aggravated sexual assault. The Paris News reports the sexual assaults apparently took place in Maxey, west of Paris, between 2001 and 2003.

The petition by Clawson asks the U.S. District Court, Eastern District of Texas to determine if he is imprisoned lawfully and whether or not he should be released from custody.
