Interest being shown in possible diner

By Scott Harvey

Commerce – A few people have reportedly expressed interest in operating the Iowa-based Maid-Rite franchise in Commerce, according to a company executive.

The proposed location, at the corner of Monroe and Hunt St., is owned by Mike Oglesby with Oglesby and Associates. Oglesby has constructed space for two separate businesses there, and says one location could soon be occupied with a job-placement firm. The location also features eight new apartments, seven of which were filled as of Wednesday.

President and CEO of Maid Rite Bradley Burt tells KETR he's had a couple of people inquire about operating his business at the location. Burt said, however, it could take a few months to get the business moved in.

The company, founded in 1926, operates 82 franchise restaurants in eight states. This summer they opened an outlet in Arlington which, according to Burt, has done very well in selling tenderloin sandwiches.

Maid-Rite restaurants are patterned after classic diners and feature what is referred to as a loose meat sandwich, made with fresh ground beef.
