Investigation continues into discovery of body

Body cameras may make their way into all Texas police department.
Greenville Police Department

The Greenville Police Department has not yet classified the death of a local man, whose body was discovered last week in the Longbranch Creek.

City of Greenville Public Relations Liaison Autumn Barton said the investigation into the circumstances of the death of Dustin Antoin Hardaway, 31, of Greenville, remained an open case as of Monday.

“They’ve said they will continue the investigation until they receive the autopsy results and then they will go from there,” Barton said.

The department received a call from a citizen on the afternoon of Thursday Feb. 26 and located Hardaway’s body in the creek, next to a bridge on Stonewall Street which crosses the Longbranch just north of the intersection of Joe Ramsey Boulevard.

Hunt County Justice of the Peace Sheila Linden was called into to pronounce Hardaway deceased and ordered the autopsy.

No funeral arrangements for Hardaway had been announced as of Monday.

It was the second time in less than a month the police department was involved in the recovery of human remains.

Human skeletal remains were discovered Feb. 12 in a field in the 1400 Block of East Joe Ramsey. No identification had been determined regarding those remains as of Monday.

Anyone with information regarding Hardaway’s death is asked to contact the Greenville Police Department at 903-457-2900 or, in order to remain anonymous, Hunt County Crime Stoppers at 903-457-2929.
