IRIS Alert warns of falling debris near Whitley Hall

COMMERCE - An IRIS Alert was issued to students, faculty and staff warning of debris falling around Whitley Hall on the campus of Texas A&M University-Commerce around 8:33pm Sunday.

Initial reports indicate that bricks have begun to fall from the facade on the rear of the building, on the parking lot side. Damage appears to be concentrated around the southeast side of the building, near the top (12 floors up.)

At this time, students are not being allowed to use the rear entrance, and are being asked to refrain from approaching the building from the parking lot, and rather, route around the building to enter.

As the spring semester begins Tuesday, there are approximately 460 residents living in Whitley Hall.

This is a developing story. Information will be posted as it becomes available.
