Jail could profit from increase in inmates

GREENVILLE - More prisoners could be housed in the Hunt County Jail soon but for no more than few days at time under an agreement reached this week.

The jail would act as a regional hub for holding inmates in-route across the United States, in what also may prove profitable for the county.

Commissioners voted Tuesday to expand the current contract with Prisoner Transport Services. The company would pay the county $43 per day per inmate to house. The company also incurs any additional charges such as medical expenses.

The Hunt County Jail has a maximum capacity of 389 inmates. It was holding 326 upon last check.
