Commerce – A Commerce resident has been sentenced to prison after pleading guilty to embezzlement.
Helen Kay Sullivan was sentenced Thursday to 42 months in federal prison. She was also ordered to pay more than $1.2 million in restitution. She had pleaded guilty in August, 2008 to one count of mail fraud. Sullivan must surrender to the Bureau of Prisons by April 15.
Between January, 2000 and September, 2006 Sullivan embezzled more than $1.2 million from Lawyers Title Insurance Corporation, where she was employed as an Escrow officer at the company's Dallas office. During that time she fraudulently wrote more than 160 checks on Escrow accounts, and mailed the withdrawn funds of payments to her personal credit card account.
