Jeanna Yeager to speak and be honored at A&M-Commerce commencement

By Kevin Jefferies

Commerce – Aviation pioneer Jeanna Yeager will receive an honorary Doctor of Science degree during A&M-Commerce commencement ceremonies tomorrow. Yeager, a 1970 graduate of Commerce High School and current resident of Sherman, is the only woman to receive the Collier Trophy-the most prestigious award in aviation. She won the award for a Voyager flight in 1986 where she flew almost 25,000 miles around the world in just nine days, without refueling. An accomplishment Yeager says she gave her heart and soul to.

Yeager will be speaking at both commencement ceremonies in the A&M-Commerce Field House tomorrow, which are set for 10am for undergraduates and 2:30 for masters and doctoral students. About 800 students will be graduating.
