Johnston Appointed to Leadership Development Committee

By Brend Lyday

Commerce – Gail Johnston, Texas A&M University-Commerce associate library director, has been appointed to the Texas Library Association Leadership Development Committee by president-elect Maribel Castro. She will begin her three-year term on April 17.

"We are very proud that Gail Johnston has been asked to serve in this statewide effort," said Dr. Dan Jones, A&M-Commerce president. "Her appointment is yet another indication of the fact that the faculty and staff of A&M-Commerce are leaders in their profession."

The Leadership Development Committee coordinates activities for the Texas Library Association, develops individuals for future leadership roles, increases the diversity of participants in leadership development activities, and plans events for the Leadership Development Institute.

"Involvement at this level gives us a voice in professional development opportunities that are offered at the state library association level," said Greg Mitchell, A&M-Commerce director of libraries. "The appointment speaks well of Gail's abilities, and it bolsters our image because our library and university employs a person who is recognized statewide as a leader."

The Texas Library Association is the largest state library organization in the U.S. It was created to promote and improve library service in Texas.

"We place a high value on excellence and achievement," Jones said. "It's always gratifying when our people receive the recognition they deserve."
