COMMERCE - Campus improvements were again on full display during Thursday’s Spring Assembly at Texas A&M University-Commerce, as another year has brought about more positive change.

President Dan Jones informed faculty and staff of academic program enhancements, including a proposal to add to the institution’s equine operations. The second phase of the new student housing initiative was also presented.

Recent improvements to technology on campus were highlighted. Jones noted one specific technological area that’s received high praise.

“Technology has become a critical component of the academic enterprise, and today I’d like to acknowledge the recognition recently accorded one of our pre-eminent online programs. Among the top online graduate business programs noted in the latest U.S. News and World Report rankings is Texas A&M University-Commerce at #5 in Student Engagement and Accreditation.  We are the only Texas school in the top five,” Jones said.

Enrollment was again up compared to spring 2011 by nearly three percent, and a vast search for new faculty continues, with 48 searches currently active. Six faculty have already been hired since last summer.

Jones added, “I don’t know if I’ve ever been at a university that was trying to hire 60 new faculty members in one year. I know a lot of you are on search committees and I commend you for your hard work.”

Dr. Jones took time to remember former members of the East Texas State University Board of Regents, W. Garland Button and Raymond B. Cameron, who had passed away recently.
