Dr. Ray M. Keck was named permanent president of Texas A&M University-Commerce by the Texas A&M University System Board of Regents Thursday, Nov. 10.
“I am so glad that Dr. Keck will continue to lead Texas A&M University-Commerce,” said Cliff Thomas, Chairman of the Board of Regents. “He is an extremely qualified leader and will help this great university reach even greater heights.”
“I am confident that Dr. Keck will provide the experienced leadership Texas A&M University-Commerce will need to be successful in the coming legislative session and beyond,” said Texas A&M University System Chancellor John Sharp.
Previously Dr. Keck was appointed interim president following the death of the previous president, Dr. Dan R. Jones, in late April of this year. Before his appointment at Texas A&M University-Commerce, Keck had served as fifth president of Texas A&M International University in Laredo, Texas, since 2001.
The Board of Regents named Keck as sole finalist for the permanent position last month, after completing a series of meetings and consultations with campus leaders.
President Keck sees boundless opportunity in the days ahead for the university he will now officially lead. “Patricia and I are humbled and grateful to become a part of the A&M-Commerce family,” he said. “The legacy of Professor Mayo, our university’s founder, teaches us that the stars are indeed within our reach. Our arms are raised together. The sun shines bright on Commerce.”
