commerce – Cole Hamels and Chase Utley led the Philadelphia Phillies to a 3-2 win over Tampa Bay in Game 1 of the World Series last night. Hamels improved to 4-and-0 in the postseason, allowing two runs and five hits in seven innings. Utley put the Phillies ahead to stay with a two-run homer in the top of the first.

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo says don't expect to see him back in action until at least the middle of next month. He said it just wouldn't be smart to get on the field with a broken finger at this point.

Meanwhile, Head Coach Wade Philips is going to be taking over much of the defensive play calling after a dismal loss to the Rams last week.

The Cowboys are a disappointing 4-3 on the season and face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on the road this week.

Martin Brodeur notched his 98th NHL shutout as the New Jersey Devils blanked the Dallas Stars, 5-0. John Madden scored two goals for the Devils, who chased Dallas goaltender Marty Turco from the net in the second period after giving up three goals on 17 shots.

The A&M-Commerce Lions Volleyball team had a disappointing showing last Friday at home, losing to the Angelo State Rambelles.

The Lions look to rebound tonight as they host Texas Women's at the A&M-Commerce Field House at 7pm.

And finally, a couple of more huge Big 12 games to look forward to this weekend. No. 1 Texas will face No. 7 Oklahoma State Saturday at 2:30. Longhorns quarterback Colt McCoy has also announced he plans to return for his senior season, much to the delight of Texas fans. In other action, No. 8 Texas Tech faces off against No. 19 Kansas at 11am Saturday.
