KETR.org to share folk festival online

KETR.org is teaming up with NPR Music to bring website visitors live coverage of the 2013 Newport Folk Festival from Newport, R.I., this Friday, Saturday and Sunday."Folk music isn't always what you think of when you think 'folk music,'" says 88.9's General Manager Jerrod Knight. "These are popular artists at an incredibly well-attended music festival, and KETR is going to flex it's technical muscle a little in order to send our Northeast Texas online audience right there to Newport, without ever having to pack."

Helping to cultivate an Americana musical genre, this festival has been bringing together folk artists with reggae, rock, and indie artists to create a unique three-day event for those who appreciate musical innovation as well as tradition.

George Wein, founder of the Newport Jazz Festival, also founded the folk festival in 1959. Bob Dylan first performed at Newport in 1963 as a guest of Joan Baez. In 1969, it was at Newport that Johnny Cash introduced Kris Kristofferson.

This year's performances include Beck, Amanda Palmer, Old Crow Medicine Show, The Avett Brothers, the Lumineers, and many others. Find the complete list of artists and when they take the stage at this page, where you can also watch the shows in real-time July 26-28.

Jerrod Knight oversees station programming, news and sports operations, individual and corporate development efforts, business and budget planning and execution, and technical operations.
