LONGVIEW - Rain-soaked streets are believed to have caused an East Texas car crash that killed a Rains County man.

The Longview News-Journal reports that police there have identified the deceased as 26-year-old Kevin Blake Gassett, a resident of Point and former longtime Greenville citizen.

His car was struck by an SUV that reportedly hydroplaned, overcorrected and swerved into oncoming traffic. The accident occurred Friday, a day when heavy rains fell throughout the region. Authorities say Gassett’s car burst into flames following the head-on wreck.

The newspaper reports that the passenger, 27-year-old Russell Wayne Nolan, was in good condition Monday. The driver of the SUV and a passenger suffered non-life threatening injuries.
