– The kidnapping suspect who was subject of the standoff south of Paris Sunday had only a BB gun in his possession. Paris SWAT officers tackled the man as he exited the car he had set on fire along Highway 19.
52-year-old Charles Ray Stevens remained in the Lamar County Jail Monday on charges of aggravated assault on a police officer, evading arrest and aggravated kidnapping. Its possible federal charges could be filed.
He allegedly kidnapped a former girlfriend at knifepoint in Campbell, took her to Oklahoma and then led officers on a high speed chase after she escaped.
The investigation is continuing and more charges are likely.
