Knight named Commerce Rotarian of the Year

Russell Armstrong

The 91st annual Commerce Rotary installation dinner on June 26 included the distribution of club awards for perfect attendance, longevity, and service.

At the end of its fiscal year, the Commerce Rotary club members congregate at Wolfe City's Webb Hill Country Club for the purpose of honoring the accomplishments of its members, saying farewell to the outgoing leadership, and installing the 'newbies.'

Notable awards include 25 years of club membership by Russell Armstrong; a Spirit of Service award to past club president Mike Roberts; and the Rotarian of the Year award, presented to Jerrod Knightin recognition of his service to the club and the community over the past year, which included chairing the club's public relations committee, heavy involvement in Commerce Idol, volunteerism during the Big Event, and the creation and maintenance of the club's online presence, through a new website and social media.

To close the program, outgoing president Jalinna Jones installed incoming president Dr. Lavelle Hendricks and his staff, which include Karen Starks as president elect, Gladys Gray as corresponding secretary, and Carolyn Trezevant as secretary. Jalinna Jones will also serve the club as sergeant-at-arms, a post previously held by Dr. Hal Langford.

The Commerce Rotary club is the local chapter of Rotary International, a worldwide organization with more than 34,000 clubs whose objective is to encourage and foster the idea of service as a basis of worthy enterprise.
