Greenville – The local defense contractor got a visit from the boss Monday.
Secretary of Defense Robert Gates made a stop in Greenville to tour work at the L-3 Communications Integrated Systems plant. Gates received an update on the company's "Project Liberty" reconnaissance program.
Under the project, the L-3 Mission Integration is modifying a total of 37 Air Force MC-12Ws with sensor packages and communications systems.
L-3 announced in July it had delivered the first seven aircraft under phase one of Project Liberty. By Sept. 2011, the company is expected to deliver a number of the planes to locations in Iraq, Afghanistan and a base in Mississippi.
