Officials in Lamar County Monday issued the region’s first total burn ban of the season.
The ban is the county’s response to a Thanksgiving weekend that saw firefighters in Lamar respond to 22 fires. It’s also in response to growing and worsening drought conditions throughout Northeast Texas.
Little to no rain is due over the next week, and steady gusty winds and low humidity should be the norm through the weekend The ban will be in effect until at least Sunday, Dec. 3. The fine for violating the ban is up to $500.
