Large budget shortfall faces Hunt County Commissioners

GREENVILLE - Judge John Horn says he’s requested of every department head a five percent reduction, but has instead received requests of items totaling $600,000.

Losses in revenue are blamed on reduced property values and significant business closures, as well as rising expenses due to health care costs and multiple death penalty capital murder cases.

The budget shortfall is anticipated to reach $1.5 million.

The current budget includes a reduction of previous year allocations to the county’s road and bridge fund and sheriff’s department.
