Large drug bust this week near Royse City

By Kevin Jefferies

Royse City – Several pounds of heroin and cocaine were seized along Interstate 30 earlier this week near Royse City by the Northeast Area Drug Interdiction Task Force. The car carrying 10 pounds of heroin and over 15 pounds of cocaine was pulled over for speeding in the eastbound lanes of I-30 just after midnight Wednesday morning. The street value of the drugs is estimated at almost $2 million.

Alfred Menchaca Jr. claimed all responsibility for the drugs, though his son was driving the vehicle when it was stopped. Also in the car were three of Menchaca's grandchildren, ages 7, 8 and 9. If convicted, Menchaca could face 5 to 99 years in prison.

This is the largest heroin seizure in the task force's history.
