Large fine handed down in local DWI case

By Brad Kellar

Greenville – A South Texas man avoided going to prison Tuesday after pleading guilty to a felony DWI charge in Hunt County. 43-year-old Brian Lee Koenig wasn't so lucky, however, when it came to the fine.

He was sentenced to 10 years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice-Institutional Division. A judge also ordered his license be suspended for two years, ordered an Interlock device to be placed on his vehicle for five years, plus ordered him to complete 400 hours of community service. Koenig was then charged a $10,000 fine on top of that.

He was arrested in Greenville for driving while intoxicated in August, 2008.

Koenig had three prior DWI convictions on his record.
