Last weekend for Li'l Abner

By Kevin Jefferies

Commerce – The hillbilly adventures in Dogpatch USA continue this weekend at the University Playhouse on the A&M-Commerce campus. Li'l Abner is this year's summer musical and features area residents and students in the cast of more than 30. Dr. Kay Coughenour, who passed away last year, was the driving force behind the summer musicals, and those involved are learning just how much work he put into the show each year, according to long-time fixture of A&M-Commerce productions R. Kevin Morris, who plays the nefarious General Bullmoose in Li'l Abner .

MORRIS: This is the first year without our beloved Dr. Coughenour, who used to run everything. Everything that had to do with this production. This is like our eleventh or twelfth year or something like that. He started it all and he did all the work. Now, people are discovering how much work he actually did because it's taking five or six people to do his one man job that he did.

Performances are tonight and tomorrow at 8 with a Sunday matinee set for 3pm. Contact the Playhouse Box Office at 903.886.5900 for reservations and more information.
