Latest census finds little change in Hunt County

Hunt County – There's been little change in the population of Hunt County cities over the past year.

Commerce was the only city in Hunt County to record a bump in population numbers, according to estimates released Thursday afternoon by the North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG). The city had an estimated population of 9,700 people at the start of the year, an increase of 50 people from beginning of last year.

Greenville's population of 26,600 people last year was unchanged.

Most of the growth in Hunt County came outside its major cities, with a total population increase of 900 people. That brought the counties estimated population to 92,500. Only Dallas and Navarro counties recorded slower population growth in North Central Texas last year, each growing at a pace of .61 percent.

Other area cities experiencing growth were Rockwall and Royse City.

Rockwall added 700 people, to reach an estimated population of 32,100, while Royse City added 50 new residents for a total of 10,150.
