Lawsuit settlement approved by Commerce School Board

By Kevin Jefferies

Commerce – The Commerce School Board accepted a settlement offer from the State Comptroller in the district's lawsuit over the difference between state and local property values. The settlement brings local valuation up to nearly $318.2 million, and was referred to as good news by Superintendent Keith Boles. Property value discrepancies led other school districts in Hunt County to file similar lawsuits as well as put pressure on the Hunt County Appraisal District to correct local values. The Greenville ISD accepted a similar settlement last night as well.
