Legislators fail to enact a statewide ban on salvia

By Scott Harvey

– You can still legally buy salvia divinorum in Texas, if you know where to look. For the third time the legislature has failed to enact a statewide ban.

Opponents of salvia say smoking the substance can make someone more dangerous behind the wheel than a person who is legally drunk.

Salvia, also known in some forms as K2, may still be available in nearby cities despite being banned or restricted in your city. Currently, Commerce, Bonham, Greenville and Sulphur Springs are among local municipalities to have either banned the substance entirely, or voted to restrict the product's sale to individuals under 21.

Several smoke shops in Arlington say they plan to restock their shelves with the product. They had let their supplies run out, thinking the legislature was going to ban it this year.
