In lieu of signal light, highway speeds reduced

SULPHUR SPRINGS – Speed limits along the State Highway 11 extension south of Sulphur Springs, an area that's seen numerous accidents, have been reduced.

The now 50 mph speed zone is an alternative to what city officials had originally hoped for; a signal light where the highway intersects Arbala Road (FM 2297). But last month, TxDot informed the City that traffic studies did not warrant such a light.

Since the new extension opened this summer, numerous accidents have been reported, including one fatality.

TxDot had previously indicated that the intersection failed to meet a couple of criteria for a signal light; the amount of peak times of high volume traffic and the number of accidents at the location.
