It only took a few minutes for a Hunt County jury to find a local man guilty of multiple sexual assaults against young girls.
The same panel sentenced Julio Torres Palomo to life in prison on a charge of continuous sexual abuse of a young child or children, according to Hunt County District Attorney Noble D. Walker Jr.
“We are extremely pleased for the children involved in this case,” Walker said. “They showed a great deal of courage in testifying against this defendant and I’m glad they were able to see their efforts pay off and the defendant sentenced to life in prison.”
Palomo, 43, of Greenville, was indicted by the Hunt County grand jury in January 2013.
The indictment alleged Palomo sexually assault two girls of less than 14 years of age on a dozen occasions on or about Sept. 1, 2010.
Palomo had pleaded not guilty.
The jury was selected in the 196th District Court on March 24. Walker said the jury deliberated about 10 minutes before returning with the guilty verdict The panel also returned the life sentence Tuesday.
“I appreciate the hard work of my assistants Calvin Grogan and Keli Aiken in this case,” Walker said. “Likewise Roger Seals of the Sheriff’s Department, Holly Robinson and Charleen Ralph of the Child Advocacy Center, and Roselyn Anglin, SANE nurse, were crucial in bringing this defendant to justice.”
Palomo was facing a sentence of from 25 to 99 years to life in prison for a conviction on the charge.
