Texas A&M University-Commerce and Under Armour have agreed to a multi-year institutional partnership, as announced by school officials this week.  The agreement begins immediately and runs through 2019.

“Entering a relationship with Under Armour is a transformational opportunity for our institution and our athletics program,” said Dr. Dan Jones, Texas A&M University-Commerce President. “Much like our university, Under Armour is thriving and growing on numerous levels, and we are thrilled to enter this partnership.”

As part of the long-term partnership, Under Armour will outfit each of A&M-Commerce’s 14 sports programs and also provide unique brand engagement opportunities to the entire institution.

"Our mission in Lion Athletics is to provide a ‘Best in Class’ student-athlete experience,” noted Director of Athletics Tim McMurray.  “This unprecedented agreement is a direct testament to the leadership of Dr. Jones, the passion and performance of our student-athletes, and the vision and leadership of our talented coaches and athletic management team.  We are blessed to lock arms with the global leader in innovation, apparel, and brand engagement.  Under Armour will absolutely help us Protect Our House.”

Under Armour was founded in 1996 by Kevin Plank when Plank made a moisture-wicking synthetic fabric t-shirt. The expansion of Under Armour's product lines has put the company at the forefront of the emerging performance apparel industry.

“We are ecstatic to enter this partnership with Texas A&M University-Commerce and Lion Athletics,” said Greg Romine, Territory Manager for Under Armour Team Sports.  “With quality student-athletes, coaches, and our mutually thriving brands, this relationship was a natural one to form.”

With a robust and growing fan-base, an alumni cohort stretched throughout the state of Texas, and a consistently growing freshmen class, it is a definitive joint match between A&M-Commerce - a leader in Northeast Texas higher education – and Under Armour – a leader in engagement, brand marketing, and world-class service.

“We are very happy to be an Under Armour program”, said Luci Ponce, Lion Softball senior and Student-Athlete Advisory Committee President.  “To have a consistent look and wide variety of female and male apparel, it will be a great advantage for us.  It will be exciting to showcase our school spirit and Lion pride with such a great brand.”

In addition to a progressive institutional partnership, Under Armour and Lion Athletics will integrate its joint story-telling efforts, marketing campaigns, social media initiatives, in-store campus promotions, and grassroots activation opportunities.
