The A&M-Commerce men's team will face Angelo State at 7 p.m. on Wed. 28.

After weeks of receiving votes, Texas A&M University-Commerce men’s basketball team surged up into the National Basketball Coaches Association Division II Top 25 at No. 25 as announced by organizations release of its ninth poll of the season Tuesday afternoon.

The Lions added 12 points after the week eight poll release to vault from the unranked into the No. 25 slot.  It is the first time this season for A&M-Commerce, who is the midst of a six game winning streak and a string of 12 wins in its last 13 games, to be ranked by the NABC. The Lions have knocked off two ranked opponent this season.  A&M-Commerce knocked off then ranked No. 11 Cal Baptist back on Friday, November 28 and followed that up with a win over then ranked No. 17 Dixie State.  Cal Baptist checks in at No. 16 on the current rankings, while Dixie State has fallen out of the rankings.

The Lions are one of three Lone Star Conference teams ranked in the top 25 including No. 8 Angelo who is A&M-Commerce’s next opponent Wednesday night in San Angelo.

The Lions have beaten three of the last four ranked teams they have faceoff against going back to the 2013-14 season finale win over then ranked No. 2 Tarleton State.

A&M-Commerce finds itself in the rankings for the 26th time and last time since spending one week, the December 3 rankings release, ranked at No. 25 during the 2013-14 season.  The Lions spent ten straight weeks ranked in the top 25 from January 4 to March 5 in the 2004-05 season.  The Lions ended that season ranked fifth for their highest ranking in the NABC poll.  It was the second time the Lions were ranked fifth after being ranked fifth on February 8.
