Lauren Parker and the Lions have had a good month of December.

The Texas A&M University-Commerce women's basketball team will be bringing a perfect Lone Star Conference record into Portales, N.M., for a 6:30 p.m. Thursday night game against Eastern New Mexico University.

The Lions (6-2, 2-0) got their third consecutive win on Saturday, knocking off Midwestern State University 73-60 in its final home game of 2016. Artaejah Gay led all scorers with 18 points on 7-of-13 shooting, including 13 points in the second half. She also had three steals and five rebounds. Krystal Pickron, Khala Riley, Jenna Price and Brianna Wise all finished with nine points. Pickron led the Lions with seven rebounds and six assists. Price had six rebounds and a team-high four steals. Wise had five rebounds, four assists and three steals.

The Lions had 25 offensive rebounds, including 11 in the second quarter. They had 13 second-chance points. Defensively they caused 25 Mustang turnovers and converted them into 27 points. They had 17 steals in the game.

The Lions overcame a cold-shooting first half to take control of the game down the stretch. “It’s a team that as it gets comfortable with one another I think we’re capable of scoring really well,” Coach Burton said. The win moves him into sole possession of third place in program coaching history with 22 wins inside the Field House. The win also brings the Lions to 6-2 of the season and 2-0 in the Lone Star Conference. They will play their next six games on the road.

Eastern New Mexico (4-2, 2-0) is coming off its second conference win after knocking off seventh-ranked West Texas A&M, 72-67, on Saturday in Canyon. The win moves the Greyhounds to 4-2 on the season and 2-0 in Lone Star Conference play. Daeshi McCants finished with 20 points to lead the Greyhounds while Mikaehla Connor added 19 points.
