Lions basketball sweeps Angelo State

By Kevin Jefferies

Commerce – A&M-Commerce basketball made it a sweep of old rivals Angelo State last night in a men's and women's double-header. The Lady Lions handily took down the formerly undefeated Angelo State Rambelles, 90-77. Head Coach Denny Downing said the upset win is a quality one for the Lady Lions, who feel poised to make a strong run in the Lone Star Conference this year. Angelo State is ranked 18th nationally in Division II.

And the men continue the early season success with a win over Angelo State, 65-58. It was defense that got the job done for the Lions, who now go to 6-1 on the season. The Rams drop to 4-2. The Lions limited Angelo State to just 33% shooting and forced 20 turnovers that led to 16 A&M-Commerce points.

The Lions are back in action tomorrow for another double header, as A&M-Commerce plays host to Abilene Christian. The ladies start off the action at 2pm, with the men following at 4pm. Both games can be heard live here on 88.9, or via the web at ketr.org.
