Lions, Greyhounds Tip Off Tonight

Texas A&M University-Commerce men's basketball team earned its first conference win on Dec. 3 with a 73-60 victory over Midwestern State University. The win brings the Lions to 7-1 on the season and 1-1 in conference play. A&M-Commerce is currently tied for fourth in the LSC standings. The Lions are currently 7-1, their best start to a season since 2013-14.

Trey Washington led all scorers with 14 points for the Lions and led with 3 steals. De'Andre Carson had 11 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Trey Seymore had 11 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists. Malik Albert had 8 points and led the Lions with 8 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 steals.

The Lions shot a season best from the free throw line at 88 percent on 17 attempts. They also shot 39 percent from 3 and 44 percent from the field. Defensively they had 29 points off of 23 Mustang turnovers and 12 fast break points. The Lions bench added 38 points.

The Lions continue conference play this week as they travel to face Eastern New Mexico on Thursday at 8:30 p.m. CST and Western New Mexico on Saturday at 5 p.m. CST.

In its last game, Eastern New Mexico University men's basketball team couldn’t overcome a cold first half in a 92-86 loss to 24th-ranked West Texas A&M. The loss put the Greyhounds at 4-5 on the season and 0-2 in Lone Star Conference play. Senior guard CoRnell Neal put up 20 points to lead the Greyhounds, while Marquise Harris had 16 points.

A&M -Commerce is currently ranked no. 6 in the South Central Region in this week's 2016-17 D2SIDA Men's Basketball Division II Media Poll. The Lions are one of six teams from the Lone Star Conference in the rankings. Other LSC teams include West Texas A&M (1st in the region), Angelo State (2nd), Tarleton State (4th), UT-Permian Basin (8th) and Cameron (tied for 9th).
