In celebration of National Telecommunications Week, the Ark-Tex Council of Governments 9-1-1 Program honored the dedicated dispatchers of Delta County.

Sue Ann Johnson was accompanied by Delta County Sheriff Ricky Smith in accepting a certificate of appreciation and gift bags for her service to the public by Rea Washington, 9-1-1 Operations Coordinator for Ark-Tex Council of Governments Thursday afternoon.

“We want to thank you for all the long shifts you work and continually serve to provide a lifeline to those in need,” said Rea Washington. “You are the unsung heroes on the other end of the line. It’s a great opportunity to reflect on the important role of the 9-1-1 dispatcher as the first, first responder.”

This week honors the thousands of men and women who answer 9-1-1 emergency calls, dispatch police, fire, EMS and equipment to provide life-saving assistance to citizens.

The 9-1-1 Emergency Communications Program is funded by a local service fee and provides fully enhanced services for a 90 county ATCOG region.
