Local elections update for Commerce

By Kevin Jefferies

Commerce – There will be no local election this year for the Commerce City Council. All places on the Council are unopposed. With the new requirement of electronic voting machines in place, the city and the Commerce ISD had planned to conduct a joint election. Now, with no city election for Commerce, only the CISD will be holding an election.

In last night's regular meeting for the Commerce School Board, plans were discussed to move early voting back to the Commerce Middle School for the board elections. Previously, early voting for both the city and school board was to be held at Commerce City Hall.

Early voting begins May 1st with Election Day May 13th. In contested races, Kay Townsend will be running against current board President Debbie Akin in Place 6; and Medley Wilson and Robert Rabb face incumbent Mitchell Scott in Place 7.
