Local groups lend aid to Katrina refugees

By Kevin Jefferies

Hunt County – The Hunt County Health Department and other county officials are on the move helping victims of Hurricane Katrina. According to the Greenville Herald Banner, Hunt county Judge Joe Bobbitt said that more and more refugees are arriving in the area daily. Many people are responding with goods and money, but the need is immediate. Hunt County health Department staff members have attended area-wide coordinating meetings to find that relief centers in Dallas are at capacity, and surrounding counties should step up efforts to provide assistance.

Almost every local organization is currently involved with relief for Hurricane Katrina victims. If you wish to help, check with your local officials to determine the greatest need in your area.
