Local lawmakers await redistricting vote

By Scott Harvey

Austin – State Representative Dan Flynn expresses concern over a proposed redistricting map which would pit him against another GOP incumbent, should the two run again in 2012.

Under the proposal by Rep. Burt Solomons, chairman of the House Redistricting Committee, Hunt and Van Zandt counties would still be listed under House District 2, but would be joined by Hopkins County. Rains County would be shifted to House District 5. Hopkins County, currently represented by Sulphur Springs Republican Erwin Cain, is now under House District 3.

Flynn says there have also been several maps drawn that have no one paired in the East Texas area. The House is to consider the proposal next week.

The map also links Lamar with Red River, Franklin and Bowie counties (District 1), Delta with Fannin and Grayson counties (District 62), and Rains with Titus with Camp, Wood, Rains and Morris counties (District 5).
