Local man vying for top outdoorsman honor

By Scott Harvey

– A Quinlan man is among 16 finalists from throughout the nation to qualify for the 2011 Field & Stream Total Outdoorsman Challenge.

37-year-old Loren Autrey is seeking the distinction of nation's top outdoorsman in the event which pits sportsman against one another in a range of outdoor disciplines as they compete for cash and prizes.

In April, thousands of outdoorsmen participated in the initial challenge, with only 200 scoring well enough to advance to one of the four regional qualifying events held in June. Next month, the top three from each regional event will join last year's top three finalists and one wildcard winner in Lampe, Mo.

Each finalist will compete in seven outdoor skill events: fly fishing, bass fishing, rifle, shotgun, endurance, archery and ATV handling.
