Local physicians to speak at Monday's health care forum

By Scott Harvey

Hunt County – Hunt County residents are asked to voice their opinions during a forum Monday night on what should and should not be included in national healthcare reform.

The forum will take place from 6-8 p.m. at the Fletcher Warren Civic Center in Greenville.

Three physicians from the Texas Medical Association (TMA) will be on hand at the event to answer questions on the issue: State Senator for District Two Robert Deuell with Primary Care Associates of Greenville; Dr. Michael Sills, a cardiologists at Hunt Regional Medical Center; and Bohn Allen, a retired surgeon general and former TMA president from Arlington.

"Texas doctors want to learn what the people want in a national health system," said Pam Udall, TMA public relations director. "The goal here is to listen to what the people have to say. TMA's emphasis is that reform legislation must put the patient first."

Also on the panel will be Dan Finch, director of legislative affairs for TMA whose membership of more than 43,000 Texas physicians makes it the nation s largest state medical association.
Dr. Sills will present the opening remarks and Dr. Allen will lead discussion about today's U.S. healthcare system.

Light refreshments will be served.
