Local school districts among growing finance lawsuit

AUSTIN - The 400th school district has joined a lawsuit challenging that the state’s current school finance system is unfair for taxpayers and students.

According to the Equity Center, more than 1.3 million schoolchildren across the state are now represented in the suit. The Texas Taxpayer and Student Fairness Coalition is made up of the largest number of school districts to file a finance lawsuit against the state.

The schools that have joined in the suit, according to the latest list, include nearly two dozen locally.

The Equity Center says currently attorneys are holding meetings to prepare for district court. The Coalition filed the lawsuit in October 2011.
