Local unemployment rate on the rise again

– A slight drop in the national unemployment rate for July did little to curb figures from the Northeast Texas region, according to a report issued Friday by the Texas Workforce Commission.

The unemployment rate for July in Hunt County rose to 8.2 percent from 8 percent in June. The rate was 5.5 percent in July 2008. A total of 36,271 people were listed as employed in the county last month.

Elsewhere throughout the region, Fannin County posted a 9.1 percent unemployment rate, Delta County 8.3 percent, Hopkins County 6.5 percent, Lamar County 7.7 percent, Rains County 8.6 percent, Rockwall County 7.6 percent, Collin County listed 7.9 percent unemployment, Kaufman County 8.8 percent and Van Zandt County posted a 7.3 rate for July.

The state unemployment rate for July was 8.2 percent.
