Local veterans to receive retroactive benefits

By Scott Harvey

Sulphur Springs – Veterans of the Vietnam War from Delta and Hopkins counties who've been exposed to Agent Orange are encouraged to contact Hopkins County Veterans Service Officer Joe Reid Scott.

According to Scott, the Department of Veterans Affairs has added some new diseases that are presumably caused by exposure to the chemical while serving on the ground in Vietnam.

Previously denied claims will be re-adjudicated by the VA for Vietnam veterans and survivors and will provide retroactive benefits.

The VA estimates that approximately 94,000 Vietnam vets and survivors were previously denied service connected benefits for these conditions between 1985 and April, 2010.

Officer Scott can be reached at 903-439-1065.
